Money has been a big theme trend here at Art Basel Miami. Money as a medium. The funniest one being a tree with literally money leaves growing from the tree. An interesting play for those recovering from the recession I guess money has been on all of our minds. The stripper pole of one dollar bills is also very playful. Great timing!
“You gotta spend money to make money”
Makes me wonder if the return on investment is good enough as Jordan Eagles one of my favorite mixed media artist gave me some advice a few weeks back. He said it’s not best to get into making art if your end goal is to make money as the return is very slow. But I guess these artists are raising saying, make art to make money or make money to make art.
To all those people who are saying that no one has any money right now just check out the site Art Market Monitor which has been recording big sales of art works during the show. For example Pan American Art Projects sold a Francis Acea “Money man” for $10,000.
