What an OTT event at the gorgeous Gotham Hall to get in the mood for Spring.
It reminded me of the New York I imagined before moving here in 2001.
Produced by Village Care. Hosted by Kelly Cutrone, Fern MalIis, and Ariana Rockefeller-one of my most fabulous friends who is launching her own clothing line. Also part of our ‘front lady’ entourage was Nadia Bartolucci real estate goddess if ever there was one-look no further when you need someone to knock it out of the park for you.
19 floral design companies (even that title doesn’t do these artists justice) with clothing designers to compete in a floral headdress shake down. Mc’d by James Aguiar who wore a suit entirely made of googly eyes-down to his shoes kept us entertained and informed while the concoctions floated down the runway -well some of the models were shaking because their headdresses were so heavy-not easy work for models. Judged by actress Beth Broderick, columnist Michael Musto in a rockin 80’s leather color blocked jacket, actress Daphne Rubin-Vega, and photographer Mike Ruiz.
What a treat to actually be at a fashion show with with now New York Times best selling author Kelly Cutrone and devoid of her usual headset to run the show. We had a nice chat about helicoptering to the Hamptons and hippie-dippie spirituality-it’s no wonder her 2nd book which you should buy is called Normal Gets You Nowhere. Kelly also of People’s Revolution has been hired to do the PR for Ariana Rockefeller’s new clothing line.
I was also having flash backs of one of the craziest fashion shows/celebrity stampedes I ever attended was at this venue in 2008 by Heatherette produced by Kelly which it’s usual circus and the best people oggling ever. I complimented Daphne Rubin-Vega on her dress which turned out to be vintage from the 50’s. Took pictures with DJ Lady Bunny who has great legs by the way. Backstage we ‘front row ladies’ were interviewed for local channel 67 or was it 57?, spotted Bill Cunningham in his own world happily shooting Preston Bailey’s headpiece, and chatted with a PR maven named Kelly. But the icing on the cake was that I won 2 silent auction items-a custom built website design package and 6 month membership to the YMCA-you will find me swimming there.
