Terrified of accessories?

By | August 15th, 2012 | Confessions

“Accessories scare me.” So often when I interview new clients, they share that they find accessories frightening.

First of all – jewelry, scarves, belts, shoes, hats, etc. are not monsters in the closet. They are tools for expressing your style. Here are a few tips to start working accessories into your life.

1. EASE into the accessory world. Start with a simple stud earring, a cocktail ring, or scarf.

2. BALANCE. Look at your outfit. Is it white, neutral, black, brown, tan, or navy?  Dress up a simple white tank with one pop of color—for example, a colorful scarf or necklace.

This scarf is wonderful for blondes. Redhead or brunette? Check out the color variations.

To display a necklace, make sure to have a fairly open neckline. Teardrop necklaces are less versatile than a collar necklace, as shown.

This necklace instantly adds a vintage feel to a basic dress.

If you’re wearing a print or more colorful outfit, stick with simple earrings. Here is a great basic.

The gold is great for those with warm skin, and the silver suits cool skin.

3. MATCH: Let’s say your outfit is black. Pick a scarf that has black in it with a bunch of others colors. It’s really only necessary to tie one color together to make it work. This strategy can be applied to any outfit.
