Who killed at the Met Ball? and WHY

On twitter: “@fuggirls This year’s Met Gala is totally making up for the lackluster Oscars this year! ”
But I saw more fashion, “oh no she didn’ts” than winners, which is odd because we have more stylists and designers than ever!
Many will share with you their opinion of what looks good (or hideous) but I would like to draw back the curtain a little bit and share with you exactly WHY certain dresses work or don’t work on that particular celebrity. When you’re dealing with couture level gowns you’re in a whole ‘other stratosphere of fashion.

In my fashion styling work there are 4 main CREDOS or standards to uphold.
1. the outfit must be a flattering color to the client (shown on the models excluded)
2. the shape, cut , and silhouette must be flattering to the client
3. the dress or outfit must be in line with the projected desired image
4. you wear the outfit not the other way around

At the Metropolitan Museum of Art Spring Gala to celebrate the new Alexander McQueen exhibit the following actresses did it RIGHT by meeting these 4 fashion rules:

Madonna – Stella McCartney

So refreshing to see Madonna in a
feminine and flattering color, that
really brought out her eyes.
Great change from her usual
goth/dominatrix look.

Daphne Guinness –
Alexander McQueen
Christina Ricci – Zac Posen
Blake Lively – Chanel Couture

Loving the lovely new strawberry blond!

Shalom Harlow – Marchesa
Salma Hayek – Alexander McQueen Taylor Swift – J Mendel

Sorry but the following celebrities in their chosen outfit FAILED the style challenge or should rethink their stylists:

Iman – Stella McCartney – dated sequin jumpsuit . #4

Jennifer Hudson – Vera Wang

I would love to see a softer neckline rather than strapless, some more bling, and possibly a more exciting color on her. #1

Serena Williams – Oscar de La Renta – #1, #4

Christina Hendricks – Carolina Herrera

Great color for you but the cut failed to impress. I also thought the neckline made her jaw appear even more square. #2, #4

Anna Wintour – Chanel Haute Couture – how is the queen of fashion could fail? See #4 Ginnifer Goodwin – Top Shop – #1, #2,#, #4
Elle fanning – Valentino Haute Couture – wow way too much going on #4 Fergie – Marchesa – bad wedding dress  #3, #4
Lucy Lui – Vionnet – color is fine but failed in #2, #4 Frieda Pinto – Chanel Couture – what was she thinking with a black tie?? #3, #4
Stella McCartney – Stella McCartney – #1, #2, #4 Naomi Campbell – Alexander McQueen –  the only McQueen which looked like a bad 80’s prom tacky #1 #2 #4
